Screening Plant Inspection & Certification in Saudi Arabia
A screening plant separates aggregate, sand, recycled material or soil into size fractions using vibrating decks or a rotating trommel drum, and it is used in quarries, ready-mix supply, demolition recycling and earthworks across Saudi Arabia. The screen box is under constant cyclic loading, which makes fatigue cracking, spring failure and loose media the key structural concerns. Third-party inspection examines the screen structure, exciters, conveyors and guarding to prevent failures before material and people are exposed.
What we inspect on a screening plant
- ✓Screen box side plates, cross members and weld seams for fatigue cracks
- ✓Vibration exciter or unbalanced shaft bearings, oil level and drive belt tension, or the drum rollers and drive of a trommel screen
- ✓Suspension springs, rubber buffers and mounting brackets for fatigue, sag and collapse
- ✓Screen media panels, mesh, hold-down clamps and tensioning hardware
- ✓Feed hopper, grizzly and feeder, including wall liner wear
- ✓Radial stockpile conveyors: belts, idlers, raise and fold rams, pivot pins and wing latch or folding locks
- ✓Tracked chassis, drive motors, track pads and transport restraints on a mobile screen
- ✓Guards, emergency stops, pull cords, access platforms and dust suppression
Common defects we find
- ✓Fatigue cracks in the screen box side plates or cross members
- ✓Broken or sagging suspension springs causing uneven screen motion
- ✓Loose or worn mesh panels and damaged hold-down clamps
- ✓Leaking hydraulic rams on conveyor fold and raise mechanisms
- ✓Blinded or torn screen media and worn side liners that let oversize material contaminate the product fractions
Risks of operating uncertified
- ✓Collapse of the screen box or loss of a spring support due to unchecked fatigue cracking
- ✓Falling stockpile conveyor or folding wing when hydraulic locks and pins fail
- ✓Crushing or falls during screen media changes when the box is not isolated and secured, or when access platforms lack edge protection
Testing, standards & frequency
Load / performance test
Not applicable: a screening plant is not a lifting appliance. A no-load and on-load run test typically checks vibration behaviour, bearing temperature, conveyor operation, hydraulic functions and emergency stops, with visual examination of any lifting points.
Inspection interval
Typically at least annually and before mobilisation, with more frequent structural checks of the screen box where the plant runs long shifts or client rules require.
Standards referenced
- ISO 12100 (safety of machinery, general principles for risk assessment and risk reduction)
- ISO 14122 (permanent means of access to machinery)
- EN 620 (fixed belt conveyors for bulk materials)
- Manufacturer specifications and load charts

FAQs
Why do inspectors concentrate on the screen box welds?+
The screen box vibrates continuously, so cracks start at weld toes and corners and grow with each cycle. Finding them early prevents a structural failure of the box or its supports.
Is a mobile screening plant inspected differently from a static one?+
The screen and conveyor checks are the same, but a mobile screen adds its tracks, transport restraints and self-contained hydraulic and power system. A static plant adds foundations and fixed structure.
