MEWP, Boom Lift and Manbasket Inspection in Saudi Arabia
Mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs) and personnel baskets put people at height, so a leaking holding valve, a failed tilt or overload sensor or a cracked weld is a fall hazard, not just downtime. EES inspects and function-tests manlifts such as boom lifts and scissor lifts, suspended platforms and crane-suspended manbaskets, and documents each unit for site access.
Scope of Work
- ✓Articulating and telescopic boom lifts: structure, boom pins and wear pads, slew ring, levelling system, upper and ground controls, and tilt and platform-load sensing where fitted
- ✓Scissor lifts: scissor arms and pins, maintenance support (safety prop), outriggers or levellers where fitted, pothole protection and emergency lowering
- ✓Hydraulic and electrical systems: cylinders, hoses and holding valves (leak and drift checks), batteries, chargers, engine, and emergency power or descent
- ✓Platform, guardrails, gates, harness anchorage points, capacity plate and the manufacturer's load and wind limits, with a function test at the rated platform load where the scheme requires
- ✓Suspended access platforms and swing stages: suspension rig, counterweights, anchor points, wire ropes, hoists, safety locks and secondary safety line, and platform capacity
- ✓Manbaskets suspended from cranes: basket construction and welds, lifting bridle, capacity marking, guardrails and toe boards, proof load test and review of the crane set-up and lift plan against requirements such as Saudi Aramco GI 7.027 (current revision)
- ✓Pre-use checklist, emergency lowering procedure and rescue plan review, so the crew can bring a stranded platform down safely
Standards
- ✓ANSI/SAIA A92 series (mobile elevating work platforms)
- ✓ASME B30.23 (Personnel Lifting Systems)
- ✓Saudi Aramco General Instructions (GI), including requirements such as GI 7.027 for personnel baskets (current revision)
- ✓EN 1808 (safety requirements for suspended access equipment) for swing stages
- ✓Manufacturer specifications and client site requirements
You Receive
- ✓Inspection report with function-test results and pass / fail status for each unit
- ✓Test certificate for manbaskets and platforms stating rated capacity and the test load applied
- ✓Inspection tag or sticker applied to the unit in the scheme your client uses
- ✓Defect list, re-inspection record and a register of units for the fleet or project

FAQs
What does a MEWP inspection include?+
A structural and visual examination of the chassis, boom or scissor arms, pins and welds; function tests of every control including the ground controls and emergency lowering; checks of tilt, overload and limit devices; and a comparison of the platform marking with the manufacturer's capacity and operating limits. Depth and interval follow the manufacturer's manual and your client's scheme.
What is Saudi Aramco GI 7.027, and do I need a manbasket certificate to lift people with a crane?+
Saudi Aramco requirements such as GI 7.027 address personnel baskets suspended from cranes on Aramco work; we confirm the current revision and project conditions with you before we attend. OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and many client schemes allow crane personnel lifting only where a MEWP, scaffold or other conventional access is more hazardous or not possible, and expect the basket to be inspected and proof tested and the crane, rigging and lift plan reviewed first.
How often should boom lifts and scissor lifts be inspected?+
Operators carry out a pre-use check each shift, and a competent person carries out documented periodic inspections, commonly at least annually. Aramco-linked and mega-project sites may ask for shorter intervals, so we set the interval with you from the manufacturer's manual and the client scheme.
Can you inspect MEWPs and swing stages at the rental yard before they go to NEOM, Jubail or Yanbu?+
Yes. We inspect units where they are stored or working, so a fleet can be checked at the rental yard before mobilisation and again on arrival if the client asks. Tell us the number and type of units, the location and the client scheme, and we will confirm lead time and any access or permit needs.
