Rigging and Lifting Gear Inspection in Saudi Arabia

Slings, shackles and hoists sit between the crane and the load, and wear, corrosion, deformation and overload damage are easy to miss by eye. Gear with no marking or no current certificate can also stop a lift at the gate. EES examines each item, rejects what fails the criteria, and returns the rest with certificates, tags and a register.

Scope of Work

  • ✓Wire rope slings: broken wires per rope lay, corrosion, kinks, crushing, ferrule and thimble condition and rope diameter, assessed against ASME B30.9 and the manufacturer's data, with ISO 4309 as the reference for rope damage and discard
  • ✓Chain slings: link wear, stretch, gouging, bent or twisted links, master link and fittings, and chain grade and WLL marking
  • ✓Webbing and round slings: cuts, abrasion, chemical and UV damage, heat glazing, stitching, exposed core yarns on round slings and label legibility
  • ✓Shackles, hooks, eyebolts, swivels and master links: wear, deformation, throat opening, thread and pin condition, latch function and WLL marking
  • ✓Chain blocks, lever hoists and trolleys: load chain, hooks, housing, brake and ratchet function, with a no-load function check and a proof load test at the load the standard or manufacturer specifies
  • ✓Lifting beams and spreader beams: welds, pad-eyes, bends and distortion, with proof load test and magnetic particle examination of critical welds where the scheme calls for it
  • ✓Colour-coding, identification and registers, with rejected gear tagged and segregated and, with your agreement, cut or marked so it cannot return to service

Standards

  • ✓ASME B30.9 (slings), B30.10 (hooks) and B30.26 (rigging hardware)
  • ✓ASME B30.16 (overhead hoists), B30.21 (lever hoists) and B30.20 (below-the-hook lifting devices)
  • ✓ISO 4309 (cranes - wire ropes - care and maintenance, inspection and discard)
  • ✓Manufacturer specifications and the client's colour-coding scheme

You Receive

  • ✓Certificate of thorough examination or test certificate per item or batch, with unique ID and WLL / SWL
  • ✓Colour-coded tag or marking for the current inspection period, to the client's scheme
  • ✓Rejection and quarantine report listing each failed item and the defect found
  • ✓Lifting gear register, cross-referenced to item IDs, for your store and your client's audit

FAQs

How often must slings and shackles be inspected in Saudi Arabia?+

Users check gear before every use, and a competent person examines it periodically. Six-monthly is a common interval for lifting gear on industrial and project sites, but your client's scheme, the manufacturer and the severity of service set the actual period, and we confirm it before we start.

What is lifting gear colour-coding and which colour do I need?+

Colour-coding is a tag or band showing that an item was examined in a given period, so crews can see at a glance that gear is current. The colour for each period and the tag format follow the client's or site's scheme, which we confirm before inspection.

When is a wire rope sling rejected?+

Typical rejection triggers are broken wires beyond the discard limit, kinks, crushing, bird-caging, heavy corrosion, heat damage and damaged or deformed end fittings. The limits come from ASME B30.9 and the sling manufacturer's data, with ISO 4309 as the reference for rope damage, and a rejected sling is tagged and removed from service.

Do you provide LEEA certified lifting gear inspection in Saudi Arabia?+

LEEA is an international trade association for the lifting equipment industry, and some clients ask for inspectors with LEEA qualifications. Ask us for our current LEEA status and the qualification evidence for the inspector assigned before you book. Whatever scheme applies, each certificate states the standard used, the item ID and the examiner.
