Spider Lift Inspection & Certification in Saudi Arabia

A spider lift is a compact tracked boom platform whose outrigger legs spread and level the machine on uneven or delicate surfaces. In Saudi Arabia it is chosen for facade maintenance, atrium and mall lighting, landscaping and plant work where access is narrow or floors cannot take a heavy machine. Its working limits depend on leg position, boom reach and sensor input, so third-party inspection verifies the legs, tracks and electronic limits as well as the structure.

What we inspect on a spider lift

  • ✓Outrigger legs, cylinders and pads, including the leg-position sensors that set the allowable working envelope
  • ✓Rubber or steel tracks, track tension, rollers, sprockets and drive motors
  • ✓Telescopic boom sections, wear pads and the jib or extension for wear, play and weld cracks
  • ✓Slew drive and turntable bolts, plus platform rotator and levelling
  • ✓Platform load cell, overload alarm, and the tilt and levelling sensors that restrict movement
  • ✓Hybrid or battery power pack, engine, and the charging or fuel system
  • ✓Remote and platform controls, emergency stop, emergency lowering and hand pump
  • ✓Hydraulic hoses and cylinders, including hose routing along the boom, for leaks and chafing

Common defects we find

  • ✓Leg-position or outrigger sensors out of calibration, giving the wrong working envelope
  • ✓Worn tracks, slack track tension or damaged rollers affecting stability on slopes
  • ✓Boom wear pads and pins worn so the platform has excessive sway
  • ✓Leaking outrigger cylinders that let a leg creep during use
  • ✓A failed or disconnected remote control, emergency stop or emergency lowering

Risks of operating uncertified

  • ✓Overturn when legs are not fully and correctly set on adequate ground
  • ✓Working envelope breached because sensors have been bypassed or wrongly calibrated
  • ✓Unexpected platform movement or drop over public areas due to a hydraulic leak or boom failure

Testing, standards & frequency

Load / performance test

Typically a rated-load test at 100%-125% of platform capacity depending on the standard and client, with the machine set up on its outriggers in the leg configurations the manufacturer permits. Leg sensors and envelope limiting are function-tested under load.

Inspection interval

Typically at least annually, with a pre-start check each shift, frequent inspections at manufacturer-defined intervals, and re-inspection before mobilisation where client or site rules require.

Standards referenced

  • ANSI/SAIA A92.20 (design, calculations, safety requirements and test methods for MEWPs)
  • ANSI/SAIA A92.22 (safe use of MEWPs)
  • Manufacturer specifications and load charts

FAQs

Is a spider lift inspected differently from a boom lift?+

The boom and platform checks are similar, but the inspector also examines the outrigger legs, leg-position sensors, tracks and the electronic envelope limiting that is specific to spider lifts.

Can a spider lift operate on a finished or sloping floor?+

That depends on the model's ground pressure, slope limits and the track or pad fittings, all of which are set out in the manufacturer's manual. A site assessment of floor loading should be done before use.
