Fuel Tanker Truck Inspection & Certification in Saudi Arabia
Fuel tanker trucks deliver diesel and petrol to project sites, plants, power stations and remote equipment fleets throughout the Kingdom. Because the cargo is flammable, a small defect in a valve, hose, earthing reel or electrical system can turn into a fire. Third-party inspection verifies that the tank, loading and discharge equipment and fire protection are in a condition that clients and site operators can accept.
What we inspect on a fuel tanker truck
- ✓Tank compartments, dividers and shell for corrosion, dents, weld cracks and leaks at the seams
- ✓Manway covers, emergency pressure relief valves and rollover protection for sealing and correct operation
- ✓Bottom-loading couplers, internal valves and emergency shut-off or fusible link devices for function and leaks
- ✓Static earthing and bonding reels, clamps and cables for continuity and secure attachment
- ✓Delivery hoses, nozzles and couplings for cracking, blistering and electrical continuity, with the hose test date recorded
- ✓Flow meter, delivery pump, PTO and overfill or high-level sensors for function and calibration records
- ✓Exhaust routing, heat shielding, battery master switch and electrical wiring for ignition risk
- ✓Fire extinguishers, spill kit, hazard markings and brake, steering and tyre condition
Common defects we find
- ✓Hoses with surface cracking or no valid continuity and pressure test record
- ✓Earthing reel or clamp that is seized, corroded or has a broken cable
- ✓Leaking internal valve seals or damaged bottom-loading adaptors
- ✓Expired or missing fire extinguishers and missing hazard markings
- ✓Inoperative emergency shut-off or overfill sensor
Risks of operating uncertified
- ✓Static discharge or an electrical spark igniting fuel vapour during loading or delivery
- ✓Fuel spillage causing fire, injury and environmental contamination
- ✓Collision or rollover rupturing a compartment or valve, causing a major release and pool fire
Testing, standards & frequency
Load / performance test
Not applicable: a lifting load test does not apply. Tank and piping leak or pressure tests, delivery hose hydrostatic tests, and brake performance checks are typically used instead, to the pressures set by the manufacturer or client.
Inspection interval
Typically at least annually and before mobilisation to a new site, with hose, earthing and shut-off checks more often where client flammable-liquid rules require.
Standards referenced
- NFPA 385 (tank vehicles for flammable and combustible liquids)
- API RP 1004 (bottom loading and vapour recovery for MC-306 tank motor vehicles), where applicable to the tank design
- Manufacturer specifications and operating manuals
- Saudi Aramco General Instructions (GI), where applicable

FAQs
How often should a fuel tanker truck be inspected?+
Most operators inspect fuel tankers at least annually and before mobilisation to a new site. Clients with strict flammable-liquid rules may ask for shorter intervals, so check the contract requirements.
Why is earthing and bonding checked on a fuel tanker?+
Moving fuel builds up static charge, and an unbonded tanker or nozzle can discharge a spark in a flammable atmosphere. Inspectors verify the earthing reel, clamp and cable for continuity and secure fixing.
