Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): MPI, DPI & UT in Al Ahsa
Non-destructive testing finds cracks, wall loss and weld flaws without cutting or damaging the item. EES applies magnetic particle (MPI), dye penetrant (DPI), ultrasonic (UT) and visual methods to lifting equipment, structures, welds and pressure parts, and helps you choose the method that suits the material and the defect you are looking for. Close to the Shaybah and Ghawar fields, with growing industrial and logistics activity.
NDT Testing (MPI, DPI, UT) in Al Ahsa: local context
Proof load testing in Al Ahsa is commonly needed after repair, modification or relocation, and ahead of shutdown work at processing plants and factories, where lifting gear must be proven before it goes to work. Summer heat and blowing dust shape the plan: EES typically schedules tests for cooler hours, agrees water supply and drainage for water-bag tests with your site team in advance, adds NDT of hooks, welds and structural members where needed, and supplies the test loads and written records.
What we deliver in Al Ahsa
- ✓Method selection by material, defect type and access: MPI for surface and near-surface cracks in ferromagnetic steel, DPI for surface-breaking defects in any non-porous material, UT for internal flaws and remaining thickness
- ✓Magnetic particle testing of hooks, shackles, pins, lifting lugs, pad-eyes and load-bearing welds on cranes and lifting beams
- ✓Dye penetrant testing of welds and surfaces on stainless steel, aluminium and other non-magnetic materials, and of weld repairs after grinding
- ✓Ultrasonic weld testing, plate and forging checks and thickness gauging on structures, tanks, vessels and pipework
- ✓Visual testing (VT) of welds and surfaces as the first step before any other method, covering weld profile, undercut, spatter and surface condition
- ✓NDT before and after proof load tests on lifting points, and as part of periodic crane and lifting-equipment inspection when the client scheme calls for it
- ✓Written procedure, acceptance criteria and the technician qualification scheme and level agreed with you before work starts
Standards
- ✓ASME BPVC Section V (Nondestructive Examination)
- ✓ISO 9934 (MT), ISO 3452 (PT) and ISO 17640 (UT of welds)
- ✓ISO 9712 and ASNT SNT-TC-1A (NDT personnel qualification schemes)
- ✓Client NDT procedures and acceptance criteria
Documentation
- ✓NDT report for each method used (MT, PT, UT, VT) stating technique, equipment and results
- ✓Indication sketches and photographs with location, length and orientation
- ✓Accept or reject statement against the specified criteria
- ✓Equipment and consumable traceability records, with re-test report after repair

FAQs
Do you provide NDT Testing (MPI, DPI, UT) in Al Ahsa?+
Yes. EES provides NDT Testing (MPI, DPI, UT) at client sites in Al Ahsa, including Hofuf and Al Ahsa Industrial Area. Contact us with your requirement and we will confirm scope and scheduling.
Which standards and documents apply to NDT Testing (MPI, DPI, UT) in Al Ahsa?+
Work in Al Ahsa is aligned with the following standards and references: ASME BPVC Section V (Nondestructive Examination); ISO 9934 (MT), ISO 3452 (PT) and ISO 17640 (UT of welds); ISO 9712 and ASNT SNT-TC-1A (NDT personnel qualification schemes); Client NDT procedures and acceptance criteria. On completion you receive: NDT report for each method used (MT, PT, UT, VT) stating technique, equipment and results; Indication sketches and photographs with location, length and orientation; Accept or reject statement against the specified criteria.
Which NDT method do I need for a crane hook or shackle?+
For most steel hooks, shackles and pins, magnetic particle testing is the usual first choice because it finds surface and near-surface cracks quickly on the part itself. Dye penetrant is used where the material is non-magnetic, and ultrasonic testing where the concern is an internal flaw or lost thickness. Hook throat opening and wear are measured separately during the lifting-equipment inspection. The final method follows your client's procedure.
Do you provide NDT testing in Dammam and NDT inspection in Jubail?+
Yes. We are based in Dammam and mobilise to Jubail Industrial City, Ras Tanura and other Eastern Province hubs, working on site or in your workshop. Before we arrive we agree surface condition, access, power and lighting, and any hot-work, confined-space or gate-pass requirements.
